ways to advertiseThere are tons of expenses that go along with starting up a new business. In addition to paying rent, stocking inventory, and purchasing equipment, you’ll need to commit some funds to advertising. Not everyone remembers to budget out advertising costs ahead of time and wind up scrambling to put together a half-way decent marketing campaign.

There are many ways to advertise that won’t cost you a dime. First off, you should set up free social networking accounts on Facebook and Twitter. This will allow you to get the word out without costing you a dime. Other ways to advertise include having coasters printed and sidewalk chalking. You’ll also want to coordinate with local businesses (that don’t compete with your own) to advertise in their establishments. To sweeten the deal you can work out an arrangement such as if a customer brings in a receipt from an establishment  that allows you to advertise, you’ll give that customer a discount.

small business advertising solutions

As a small business owner my only two concerns are increasing revenue and bringing in more customers. I’m not interested in Tweeting, Facebook posting, or any other social media solution. It’s not that I don’t think these tools are effective; I just don’t have the time to sit on my computer all day promoting my business online.

My target audience is local, so Tweeting to customers across the country isn’t going to drive customers into my brick and mortar store. Instead, I use targeted small business advertising solutions. Creative advertising like sidewalk chalking and advertising at gas pumps are much more effective. These clever, well-designed advertisements are more likely to bring in a local crowd than an online campaign.

Bars are a terrific locale to attract new customers to your business. You may be thinking that the bar crowd isn’t your target audience, but think about who patronizes such establishments. Generally you have a good mix of young professionals with a lot of capital and few responsibilities. This means that they have a lot of disposable income to spend at your business.

Bar advertising is relatively inexpensive, especially when you consider the high yield you get in return. For instance, if you advertise with an electronic LCD dartboard that flashes your ads on a 90 second loop, your target audience will see the ad for up to 30 minutes. There’s the potential for 15,000 viewers at each location, every month. Not only will your business be imbedded in the bar patrons minds, they’ll also be more likely to spread the word about your business via word of mouth.bar

Mom ‘n Pop shops generally don’t have the advertising budgets that big corporations enjoy. Every penny counts, especially in this economy. The best way to invest in your business is to expand your clientele through targeted, effective advertisement.

People are bombarded with advertisements every day, so you need to make your small business advertisement unique, eye-catching. With some help from professionals, you can figure out where your target audience hangs out and what they’re interested in. Then, for not much money, you can place creative cling ads, sidewalk ads, and even dartboard ads in those areas. Each advertisement has the potential to reach 15,000 viewers a month. Not every single viewer will wander over to your shop, but your odds of attracting new customers skyrockets.

sidewalk advertisingChalking is huge on college campuses. Chalking is a form of sidewalk advertising where an organization or business can advertise a new product or upcoming event. For instance, the Gamer Symphony Orchestra at the University of Maryland chalks all over campus for its events. In addition to the dates and times of their concerts, they draw video game characters to catch the attention of passersby.

The Bureau, a sketch comedy group, chalks out jokes to advertise their shows. Sororities and fraternities use chalking to advertise their open houses. Even local night clubs chalk to promote their DJs, drink specials, and parties. While college clubs may only have access to traditional sidewalk chalk, there are clings for sidewalks, sidewalk paint, and less soluble chalk that will make your sidewalk advertising last longer. Expand your business with this innovative form of outdoor advertising.
